2.5 rounded up. I really wanted to like this book - I was a huge fan of 7½ deaths, and it started out great! Excellent world building, good characters, intriguing plot. However it just feels like it wasn't finished yet. He needed to cook this one a little longer, it let it sit for a long time then come back to it, or something!

As the book goes on it gets sort of hard to follow all the little details, the characters are running all over the place in unrealistic timelines, people seem to transition setting without the reader being notified, and their motivations randomly change. At the same time there is both incredible urgency and casual seeking conversation. I was listening on audiobook so that may account for some of the confusion but I just really wish he'd taken longer to perfect this. It could've been really special.
