Emma by Jane Austen

4.0

I read Pride and Prejudice back in 8th grade and it has since become (probably) my favorite book of all time. I tried to read Emma back in 2016/2017, quitting around halfway through. I listened to the Jenny
Agutter audiobook and I really liked it. The thing that's strange to me about Emma is that the eponymous character and much of her matchmaking misadventures would almost make more sense in a modern setting (which is probably why clueless is so popular). I will say, my main thing I didn't like about this was that I felt like there wasn't enough Knightley. Like, I can handle Mr. Woodhouse going on for ages about how ill everyone is but at least balance it out with some more amicable Emma-Knightley interaction! I really can't wait to watch the movie coming out this February; it looks hilarious. This is not a new all time favorite as I would have hoped, but I did love it and would recommend it up there with P&P. I do plan to continue re-watching the YouTube web series Emma Approved every year or so like I have been since I found it, as well. Seriously, if I ever wrote a book, it would be a modernization or retelling of a Jane Austen novel.
