The pacing was quick and the writing was easy to read (although I did find it pretentious at times). I enjoyed the scope of the grief in the book and appreciated the way addiction was interwoven. I deeply hated the unnecessary and predictable epilogue and I generally disliked the characters and never found myself rooting for them. Overall, I think there is a specific demographic for this book and I'm not it. I can't see myself gravitating towards Mellors' work again in the future.
