If You Hate Me by Helena Hunting

4.0

This story follows Bea who moves in with her brother and his best friend who she hates. Though they decide to have a one-night stand that becomes more. I have read Hunting’s books in the past and really enjoyed them so I was excited to read this one. I was hooked from the beginning and loved the writing style. It was fun and you can feel the chemistry between the MCs. The pacing was a bit off for me as it started fast in the beginning and towards the middle, the story got slow. I do wish we got more of the hockey aspect of the story because I loved that in the past Hunting’s books. This book is told from both Bea and Tristan’s pov.

Bea is the FMC of the story who didn’t have money growing up, quit her job, and not need to move in with her brother and his friend. I liked her character and connected with her a bit. I do want to see more development of her side and see her grow her passion to a job. Then there is Tristan who comes off as a jerk but he also had a bad childhood and cares for his family. For the most part, I enjoyed his character but hated the way he wouldn’t communicate a lot. I know it was part of his character but I hated seeing the characters apart. There were many side characters in this story and I mostly loved them all. I’m excited to see what Hunting has in store for them. The romance is hate to love, brother’s best friend, sports romance, and angst. There are a lot of steamy scenes and the chemistry is top-notch. I did hate the miscommunicate and the third act breakup in this book.

The ending was great and I’m happy to see the characters have their HEA. There is a teaser of who the next book will be about which I’m so excited about because I loved the characters in this book. I enjoyed this book and recommend checking it out because of it. You don’t want to miss out on this hockey romance.
