The Queen of Crows by Myke Cole

2.0

This book simply wasn't for me. It felt like a lot of battle scenes strung together by some plot episodes, and I am not a reader who loves battle scenes.

I also thought Heloise's characterization was inconsistent, and I had trouble understanding her motivation at times. Is she bent on revenge? Is she trying to overthrow an oppressive regime? Does she want freedom for everyone, or just for the people who think the way she does?

Lastly, I did not like the romance elements. I'm all for romance in books, but here it feels too wedged in.

I think my overall disappointment from the series stems from its being on the short side. I wish I would have had more time to experience Heloise's world and characters before all the fighting started, because then I would have been more invested in what happens to them.
