Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood

3.0

“You don't even have to admit to yourself that you love me, Bee. God knows I love you enough for the both of us.” - Levi Ward

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I have read The Love Hypothesis last year and enjoyed the experience. I liked Ali Hazelwood’s writing style, so I thought, why not try her other books.

HOW IT STARTS

“HERE’S MY FAVORITE piece of trivia in the whole world: Dr. Marie Skłodowska-Curie showed up to her wedding ceremony wearing her lab gown.”

MY BULLETED THOUGHTS ON LOVE ON THE BRAIN:

- Bee, our main character, is just like me. It’s uncanny how similar we both are when it comes to our personality. We might not have the same experience, but we share the same outlook and even struggles. I found it hard to trust people again because of how I was hurt in the past. It made it so hard for me to open up again to people. Bee was the same.
- I love Levi. He is the sweetest cinnamon roll, when he isn’t trying to ignore you that is. He is such a nerd and I am all for it.
- I love it when the guy falls first and is completely all over the girl. This is that book. And Levi fell. He fell hard as fuck.
- Bee and Levi are so good for each other. They are literally perfect together. It upsets me that it took them years to be together because of miscommunications and misunderstandings.
- The miscommunication trope really needs to disappear in the romance genre. I am starting to hate it. I would have loved this book more if it wasn’t for that.
- I really like Ali Hazelwood’s writing style.
- I’m afraid I have to say it. Love on the Brain is like a copy-paste of The Love Hypothesis. Sure, the situations are different, but when I was reading it, it felt exactly the same.
- There were plot lines that were never resolved. The plot line involving Levi’s family was introduced but never resolved. I wish there was some sort of resolution for it instead of being brushed off under the rug. The friend and ex-boyfriend plot line was semi-resolved, but not really. Plot lines should have been closed properly, or not have been introduced at all.
- It was pretty predictable. I kinda knew what was going on based on the first few chapters of the book.
- In this book’s defense, it is very addicting. I read this book in a day which is very rare for me.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed reading this, but I couldn’t rate it any higher than what I did because of how there was nothing new here. While it did give me some feels and the sex was hot, it wasn’t anything that I haven’t read before.

Overall, Love on the Brain is an enjoyable read. I would recommend it to people who are looking for a quick contemporary romance read and would not mind common repeated tropes in romance novels.
