“Onaabenii Giizis,” he proudly proclaimed out loud. “The moon of the crusted snow.”

Moon of the Crusted Snow
by Waubgeshig Rice

QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
With winter fast approaching a small northern Anishinaabe goes dark. Food spins starts to dwindle and the Band Council and a small group of community members try to keep the community from chaos.
Soon the community leader ship loses grip on control when outsiders come in and try to manipulate their way into control.

FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
I first listened to this audiobook years ago, and loved it then. Recently I read it with one of my bookclubs and that love has not subsided. With the sequel out in Canada and soon out in the states let this be your sign to read the book.

This winter apocalyptic book is perfect for these cold winter days, where people fight for survival not from the looming dread but for their traditions.
