Song of the Trees by Mildred D. Taylor

4.0

***NOTE: As part of our 2020 reading challenges, my mom and I are revisiting the old works of her favorite YA author, Mildred D. Taylor, and will soon get to read All the Days Past, All the Days to Come for the very first time.***

Here we have a touching Logan tale that could double as an age-appropriate, contextually-grounded explanation of the Great Depression (or other economic downturns) to young children. My edition included some charming illustrations by Jerry Pinckney, which I enjoyed flipping through! His images portray the intimacy between the Logan family that is woven inside each of Mildred D. Taylor's action-packed stories. On to the next one, I go!
