I read this book for an introductory english class on queer literature. This is a beautiful book that explores gender, sexuality, race, class, religion, and power in the Caribbean. The structure of the novel, being non-linear, was a bit different or challenging for me, but it all makes sense in the end. I honestly don’t think the story could be told any other way. Not completely satisfied by the ending, so that’s why it’s not a five star, but I don’t think I’ll ever forget this book and its impact on me. Please check the trigger warnings!
