The Shadow Friend by Alex North

4.0

**TW**
This book contains dark themes, mention of s*icide, death, murder, blood and violence.

What an eerie read this was! The Shadow Friend follows along with the idea of lucid dreaming. This was a topic that, although it was interesting, it was slightly confusing at first.
Charlie's character was just unlikeable, although that was the kind of person he was made to be. His intentions were never pure and his persona was just really irritable. This really added to the story though, in my opinion. It added that villainous touch.

We mainly see this book through the eyes of both the child and adult versions of Paul. This gives us an insight into where the string of crimes taking place in the present originated from. We also follow Detective Amanda Beck as she is determined to solve this case.

There weren't really any characters in this book that I felt I could connect to, but, with this book, it didn't entirely bother me.

Alex North has written a really eerie book that takes place a few years after the events of The Whisper Man (which I may add, was also a very good read!).
I really enjoyed the plot and I definitely didn't expect what came at the end. I do believe this book was better than The Whisper Man and I really look forward to more of Alex North's books!
An eerie, captivating read that strings readers along and keeps them questioning who and why up until the very end. A wonderfully fast paced read!
