“Why are we like this”

I loved this an extra load. We get an insight on Charlie’s mental health and it’s eerily relatable, to a T. My heart hurt for Charlie , it brought me to tears even. But in the middle of all this , Charlie managed to seek help, he began to get better and understand that there will be bad days but it’s a healing process. Charlie’s mental health journey was portrayed realistically. The realistic notion that love does not heal mental illnesses (we have to find it in ourselves to get the help we need and heal) meant a lot to me.

Nick being the supportive boyfriend makes my heart lurch. Literally. It wasn’t just Charlie going through the pain , Nick realising that he can’t help by taking it all away was real, and it hurt. (I cried lmao) But he did the research , he understood that Charlie needs to seek help; and he made sure to encourage Charlie step by step to talk about it. I loved that Nick was patient , he understood and he supported Charlie throughout it all.

I can’t not mention the Paris Squad ;) each and everyone of them were so supportive and were just rooting for Charlie’s well being. Truthfully, their support and love would’ve been a great support system to Nick who was constantly worried about Charlie. We also learnt about Darcy’s homophobic parents and the struggles she goes through as well as Elle’s struggle with not being able to go back to Egypt to visit her grandparents. On the other hand, we have Charlie’s family (who although are pretty strict), Nick’s mom as well as Elle’s mom, being the wonderful supportive system that every teenager needs growing up. We see both sides of the spectrum and that’s realistic.

I also loved how Nick and Charlie’s relationship achieved its healthy balance, without co-dependency and understanding that everyone needs space and time with people like your family, friends and more.

Overall, I loved how serious matters were addressed and represented realistically. Everyone struggles with something, and we can’t expect to heal others, but we can for sure be there for them. I liked the healthy relationship portrayal as well as the diversity in the characters. Super excited for Volume 5 <3
