This felt like a big departure from Lonesome Dove, but I think the more violent scenes and wilder plot mirrors the more violent and wilder days of the early West, when Gus and Call are younger men.
Still present though were McMurtry’s plainly beautiful prose, phenomenal character work, and thrilling sense of adventure.
I wasn’t as emotionally moved as I was by Lonesome Dove, but I had a great time with it. Looking forward to reading the rest.
