Tomo-Chan Is a Girl! Vol. 1 by Fumita Yanagida

On the first day of high school, Tomo confessed to her best friend Jun. The problem is that Jun hasn't ever thought of Tomo as a girl. Ever since they were kids they'd play together and even learned karate together, but now Tomo wants to shake off her tomboy image and win Jun's heart.
This is an adorable 4-koma (four panel layout) slice of life manga about Tomo who is crazy about Jun, but he doesn't see her as much. I found this very similar to Wotakoi in the fact that it isn't very episodic like other mangas are in a different style. Instead we're looking at a day in the life of these characters and there's a plot that slowly unfurls itself as the volume goes on.
Needless to say I did relate to Tomo quite a bit because I have always been a bit of a tomboy and I've been interested in guy friends that only saw me as one of the guys. It's frustrating. Now, I know what you're thinking, this sounds dangerously like friendzone. Nope. Jun is pretty much oblivious to her and it's fairly clear in the first few chapters that their feelings might be mutual.
I really loved Misuzu who is Tomo's best female friend and how she kind of plays with Jun. They don't really get along that much. She has that kind of intimidating demeanor.
This is another manga I picked up on recommendation and I'm glad that I did. I'll be grabbing more volumes whenever they pop up on sale.
