An Unnatural Vice by KJ Charles

5.0

4.5 for the story
4.5 for the narration by Matthew Lloyd Davies

A wonderful enemies to lovers story with a Victorian gothic feel to it. This book continues the story started in An Unseen Attraction about bigamy, murder, and a missing heir. Charles is at her best here bringing together two very different, very unlikely characters and having them overcome the obstacles it takes to be together while also trying to solve a mystery (or two) and not get murdered. Easy! I love how this author takes unlikely, and in some ways unlikable people and makes them into real, three dimensional people worth caring about. I also love how she evokes such a sense of place, making the sickly, dangerous London fog and the stinking alleys as important as any character in the book. Her descriptions are so vivid.

I recommend reading the series in order.
