Finn's Fantasy by K.C. Wells

4.0

This is the first book in a new series (Maine Men) that follows a group of who have been friends since junior high and high school, now in their mid-twenties, as they find the relationships they are looking for. The book does a good job of laying the foundation and introducing the guys. It gets a bit confusing keeping track but keeping track of the others isn’t really necessary to e joying this specific story.

The MCs in this book are group member Finn, a carpenter and Joel, a newly divorced father of teenagers who has finally come out after twenty years of marriage. He had a secret  boyfriend in high school and college but gave in to expectations, got married and had kids and is just now trying to live his life. Finn and Joel meet and become friends when Joel hires Finn though each of them is crushing on the other.

The story arc moves well. We get to know Joel and Finn well so we can feel invested in their HEA. The story is low angst but there is drama and your heart goes out to them as the drama is happening. Joel’s relationship with his ex-wife is such a refreshing change from what we usually get to see (the bitter harridan/harpy/shrew) and it’s so nice to see. There’s a lot of steam as one might expect in the “exploring this new modern gay me” theme. But for the most part it seemed in service to the story and the character development rather than gratuitous. Plus, there’s a cute dog! 😁

I enjoyed the book, which has a preview of book two at the end and will look forward to reading the next book in the series when it comes out.

**I voluntarily read an arc and this is my unbiased opinion.**
