Dragon Teeth
by Michael Crichton
Come for the frontier paleontology, stay for the Wild West gunfights!
Now I thought this was going to be a book about fossil hunting, which it was. But I was surprised to find it's also a book about shootouts, gambling dens, Sioux attacks, and my very favorite town of Deadwood!

Now, I had been searching for a novel that told the story of the infamous "Bone Wars" of frontier fossil hunting for quite a while, and then I find one posthumously published by one of America's most prolific and popular authors! Seek and ye shall find!
The writing here is great. I can be a fan of purple prose, of flowery descriptions and beauteous metaphors, but there's something to be said for the "he saw this, he said that, then this happened" style of almost clinical story-telling that pervades this novel. You're never confused as to what's happening, what's being felt.
Highly recommended for fans of the Western genre, fans of the late, great Crichton, and anyone interested in what two desperate scientists can do to each other!
