The Last Last-Day-of-Summer by Lamar Giles

4.0

This book was a fun romp! When it started, I was a bit confused. It almost felt like this was a second book in a series and I had missed the first. The two protagonists are written as established adventurers and the author references other adventures they have been a part of, even though they aren't mentioned elsewhere (actually, this turned my son off to reading this book, though I am now going to encourage him to give it another try). After a little bit though, the characters became clear and the conflict, which included some punny and wry word play, was fun. This became a 4 star read for me in the last few chapters, in which the story, otherwise mostly just fun, also became heartwarming and touching. I will eagerly read the next in the series and I'm looking forward to discussing this with our MS friends in June!
