The Secret History
by Donna Tartt
is this my favorite book of all time now? yes it is my favorite book of all time. i did not expect to love this as much as i did bc this is the first time i’ve read a genre or book type like this and i genuinely fell in love. it was sooooo amazing that i think no words are enough to describe just how much of a brilliant book this was.
i loved henry and thats bc he was able to actually manipulate things on how he wanted them to go but not so strongly to the point where i’d hate him but enough for me to be astonished. he was a very well-written character and so was every other character, but he stood out the most.
i loved richard as well (completely ignoring that one scene with camilla) because he was such an entertaining narrator that in the second part of the book, i was so in sync with his thoughts that every single thing he thought of about other people was what i thought about as well.
francis was a darling. i loved every page he was in because he was so fun to be around despite him being panicky at times and be too jumpy, but i couldn’t exactly blame him because of the circumstances they were in.
i was alright with the twins. i found charles to be quite charming at first, but totally the opposite later on which i will not reveal why because it would be a spoiler. camilla was girl boss (ignoring that one scene) and we love to see that!!
as for bunny? well…no comment there.
overall i loved everything about this book: the setting, the writing, the suspense, the plot, everything! i am writing this review hours after i finished the book and i am still left in awe with everything that i read. this is the type of book i would sell my soul just to read again for the first time.
5 stars!
