The End and Other Beginnings: Stories from the Future by Veronica Roth

4.0

Altogether a quality collection of "out of this world" stories. I had a few issues with what I felt was an overuse of romance but other than that the stories were well written and I enjoyed them!

Inertia 4 stars
I really liked this short story, but the ending ruined it a little for me (as well as a few details throughout
SpoilerI don't think anti-depressants will immediately 'cure' you like the story kinda implies but that's just my thoughts
). Nonetheless a really good read.

The Spinner 3 stars
I liked it, but the love was a lil instant for me. All the aliens, it was an interesting feature, and a hopeful ending.
SpoilerDo these stories have to have love?

Hearken 4 stars
Perfect pitch story!! Yes! I liked the ending, and a lot of the themes reflect the issues in our world.
SpoilerThe sudden potential love remained platonic!
The beginning definitely made me think Divergent. The perfect pitch presented was accurate, though definitely overestimating our ability to transcribe haha; that school must've done a lot of training.

Vim and Vigor 4 stars
I was gonna make another sarcastic comment but it got resolved in the story so yay! I'm not that into superheroes so I wasn't that enthused about this one but I liked the Elucidation Protocal and Edie/Kate.

Armored Ones 4 stars
I'm more immerse in the world of Carve The Mark now, and feel like maybe I'm finally ready to read The Fates Divide; I've certainly put it off long enough. I wasn't sure what the point of the first chapter was but the story was good and I liked the second chapter, go Akos.

The Transformationists 3 stars
Wasn't too sure how this story related to Carve The Mark other than a vague relation universe wise, and I got a little lost in the sci-fi elements, the baseline story was good though.
