This was an unusual book told from two perspectives. Jean is a complicated character who definitely makes mistakes, but her desire to create and grow as a mature adult really spoke to me. On the other hand, her estranged stepdaughter Leah doesn't have much character growth at all until the very end of the book. And even that takes place off the page. She just comes across as judgemental and condescending.
