On My Aunt's Shallow Grave White Roses Have Already Bloomed by Maria Mitsora, Jacob Moe

4.0

These stories have been translated from the Greek, and span forty years of the author's writing career. I found it a heightened Angela Carter-esque collection, quite snappy and abrupt in places, and as creepy as it is beguiling. The stories all surprised me; I could never quite pinpoint in which direction they would go. On My Aunt's Shallow Grave... is a varied collection, but darkness permeates the whole. A great choice for fans of magical realism.
