Harriet the Spy
by Louise Fitzhugh
What an odd, somewhat frightening character Harriet M. Welsch is! This book is fascinating as a character study of Harriet alone, but also an interesting view of children’s publishing in the 60s. I laughed out loud more than once at Harriet’s clever, but cruel, observations, and thoroughly enjoyed this short read.
