Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle by Betty MacDonald

4.0

* listened to it again and it was a hit the second time around too!

*We started this book in hard copy and the same day I found the audio CDs at the library so we listened to the rest of it in the car. Started on Monday morning and finished Friday morning. Julia (5.5) really liked it.

We always had it on the shelf growing up but I don’t think I ever actually read it. Don’t ask me why. It was a title I was familiar with but didn’t know the content. Every chapter is a baffled parent reaching out to Mrs. Piggle Wiggle for her cure to whatever misbehavior the child is engaging in. All I’ll say is that the radish cure made me gag. Gross.

The book was written in the 1950s I think, so some of the language is different, but honestly I was surprised about how little felt old fashioned. Aside from a chapter all about a boy named Dick and a few comments about kids being fat, I don’t remember anything else that wouldn’t really be in a book written these days.

I love the authors creativity and the ridiculous names she gave some of the children ie Pergola.
