Part coming of age story, part demonic possession story, and all 80s horror flick vibes, My Best Friend's Exorcism provides just the right amount of campy escapist fun. Humor and horror seem to be in perfect balance here, which sure, did lead to some less than scary moments, but; it perfectly encapsulated the entertaining silliness of the genre at the time. That said, there were some genuinely freaky moments throughout the novel.

Though I wasn't alive in the 80s, something about this book felt nostalgic. Maybe it's how Hendrix writes, maybe it's how authentically he captured the teenage experience, I don't quite know. What I do know is that reading this book brought me back to a time of late nights texting instead of studying, of skipping classes, of refusing to admit that actually, yes, that scene in the movie totally did freak me out.

That's such a special feeling that this book has gifted me, and for that, it will always hold a place in my heart. In short, this book is a creeptastic piece of 80s escapist fun, written by the king of nostalgia.
