One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
by Ken Kesey
This book was a rollercoaster and I am SO glad I did not give up near the parts that made me cry or the parts which triggered some bad memories. I love it with all my heart. It is witty, thought-provoking, cruel, memorable, and fun.
I was hoping for a "good" ending, I even wished that all of them would just die rather suffer like that. But I was quite unprepared for that bittersweet ending. I sympathized with The Big Nurse near the end. I was rooting for Chief Bromden and I am glad he got better over the time. The "raising of hand" and "saying thank you" scenes are going to live rent-free in my mind. I felt neutral about McMurphy's arc since he is a morally shady character, and I feel that he got his due.
This book will always have a place in my heart.
