The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women by Kate Moore

challenging dark emotional sad medium-paced

5.0

Radium Girls is probably my favorite non-fiction book of all time! Kate Moore is a fantastic voice for these women who have been largely forgotten over history, despite their immense contribution to workman's compensation laws, worker safety, and our understanding of radioactive effects on the body. It was exceptionally well-researched and contained never before published excerpts from the girls' diaries and interviews with them and their family members. It should be noted that this book has some very gruesome depictions, so it's not for the squeamish. I loved how intimately the reader gets to know the girls, even with such a large cast of characters.
