Naughty in Nice
by Rhys Bowen
After the dark and moody crime novel of my previous post, it was time for a little light and froth. What better than the latest Lady Georgianna in what is now being called the Royal Spyness series. In this book, it is January, cold, depressing and Lady Georgianna is living in her family's London home, unfortunately with her brother and his pregnant wife, Fig. (We learn her real name in this book. It's NOT pretty!) Georgie is told that we will have to go back to the cold & very drafty family castly because the family is closing up the house for a while. They have been invited to stay with Fig's family at their villa on the Riviera. As the impoverished royals that they are, this is godsend for them. However, they claim they cannot afford to pay for Georgie's trip. At the same time the queen requests that she visit. When Georgie tells her of her plight, she has two thoughts: she can attend an elderly British princess OR go to the Riviera and get back a valuable snuffbox that a rather nasty but wealthy man stole from the queen during a visit. Silly? Yes. Fun, also yes. Georgie reconnects with her mother quite by accident, not to mention meeting Coco Chanel who wants her for a model, plus takes quite a shine to her. This book was a lot of fun and a quick read! Enjoy.
