I enjoyed this book, especially Sophie's determination to find ways to learn about her chickens, in spite of the obstacles. The only thing I didn't particularly care for were the bits of magic thrown in here and there. They were, for me, distractions from what was otherwise a very realistic story. I don't mean Sophie's flights of imagination, I mean the chickens doing things that chickens would not be able to do. This comes across as a deus ex machina for kids.
