The Devil's Highway by Luis Alberto Urrea

challenging dark emotional informative sad tense medium-paced

4.5

One of the most challenging books I've read in recent years: a deep, reporter's eye examination of the lives and deaths of a group of Mexican immigrants and their coyotes trying to cross the border in the 90-110 degree heat of the desert, and the context of their choice to make the attempt.  Lots of horrifying details of the trauma and its aftermath, as well as the perspectives of all sides.  Daunting.
