The Predicteds

I can definitely see the interesting points within this book, but it's for me all shrouded in the banality that is teenage drama. Granted, I want to explain that when I first read this about 7 years ago, I did enjoy it! It's just one case where returning to an old book I liked when I was younger sadly was disappointing due to the growth I've personally experienced.
"I'm not saying we should take the side of the criminals. I'm just saying we need to think about this."
While there is the plot of the PROFILE program and the way it causes teens to be overly aware of the possibilities within their peers, this also has a bit of a mystery that was fascinating to watch unfold. The cast of characters is not small and it could be disorienting at first trying to grasp the narrative, but it all comes together in a quite satisfying end. It's very much a Minority Report for kids, which is something I liked when I originally read it. I will point out some content warnings for sexual assault (not on the page, but discussed), underage drinking, mentions of drugs, and a school shooting that is literally the catalyst in the beginning of the book.
This book is, at some points, very funny! And charming. Daphne's internal monologue is often quite witty, but also unfortunately suffers from the "not like other girls" aspect that is so common in YA of this time. But I did chuckle at a few moments, most often at the outdated elements regarding fashion and culture that come with making something "hip" for when it comes out. Also the slang.
For everything outside the main plot, I think I'm just too old for this. Especially with the sheer amount of girl-on-girl hate in this book. Judging others for what they do or don't wear, who they do or don't hang out with, and who they do or don't like... I'm glad I'm past this stage, and my time in it was not nearly as intense as Daphne's. Also I have a strong dislike of how so many of the women in this book treat men like objects, and vice versa. Bit gross!!
Overall, this book isn't horrible! But it also isn't anything I'd extol about. I prefer different science fiction now, less laden with the "epic highs and lows" of high school living lol. But if you fit the age demographic, you could enjoy this a lot, just as I did back when it was more relevant to me. I'd say give it a shot, if you're interested!
