This novel gripped me from the beginning and didn’t let go until long after I finished it. Frankly, I believe this will be a book that stays with me for years to come. It made me weep at times, it was occasionally shocking and overall quite disturbing, but I absolutely loved it. And the prose, translated from French, was quite beautiful without crossing over into indulgent, which I feel works very well for the overall tone. When a book leaves this much of an impression on you, you can’t easily shake it. If you hate unresolved or unanswered questions, you might be frustrated with it, but honestly any answered questions would cheapen the point of it, and I think it’s better off leaving you wondering.
