This is a great paranormal romance, the first of the angels series that is really good. Veck and Reilly are such a great couple. Veck and Reilly are a five star romance. There's a lot of superfluous noise that I'm not really following with Jim, Devina, Eddie, Colin, Ad, and Nigel that it is two or three stars.

To be honest if it wasn't Jim, Veck, or Reilly narrating I skimmed or skipped it. They get in the way of a good book, and skipping their parts didn't get in the way of me following the plot.

So, Veck. Veck is the partner to Jose de la Cruz, Butch's old partner from the brotherhood series. Veck's father is a Ted Bundy-esque type of serial killer who is set to be executed. Veck has gone on the side of the law to protect women against maniacs like his Dad, but he fears he inherited the violent crazy gene.

On top of that he has crazy "fans" of his Dad that have been trying to fool him and ingratiate themselves into his life since he was a kid, and he can't trust anyone.

He is a great, aggressive, damaged alpha male, and a great hero. I loved his character, and Jim and Devina's involvement is interesting and suspenseful to the plot instead of a distraction like the last two books.
