Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke by Eric LaRocca
2.0
Just… why?
Honestly I thought this would be right up my alley, and I loved the way it started off. But when it was getting near the end I found myself grasping at straws for any sort of artistic intent or reasoning behind the text. The author seems to be trying to be edgy for the sake of being edgy without having any actual substance. It is what it is. Which is a shame because it could have been something.
Edit: No you know what, I'm not finished.
The characters are badly constructed and have no depth. It honestly seems like this is a published work from a creative writing class. Except this author didn't really listen to the teacher because why should they, they know better than some dumb teacher, right? Only deserves the two stars because I did like how it started out. Very disappointed that it went so sharply downhill and didn't deliver on anything of interest after the first few pages.
Trying to shock readers might work for some, but there is just nothing there beyond it.
