Not a bad start. Needed some editing due to missing words and punctuation here and there.
One character was jarringly bad, and would not have lasted 10 seconds on any military ship anywhere, no matter how smart she was. The heroine was decently written, even if everyone reading knew her end-of-book condition long before she did.
We have the second book (it was also free), and I am curious enough to read it.
