Arturo's Island by Elsa Morante
3.0
honestly kind of a letdown - i had high hopes after reading lies and sorcery - wish i had read the ann goldstein translation instead bc this one was riddled with errors and also had completely inaccurate flap copy that mischaracterized the story.. all of this aside it really petered off at the end and i felt like i had to drag myself through the last 100 pages or so, all for a very anticlimactic ending.
on the good side of things i like the way it explored arturo’s pretty messed up family dynamics - mommy AND daddy issues - and liked the very summery italian atmosphere, especially procida being near ischia (where elena vacations in one of the ferrante neapolitan quartet books)
at least i can start intermezzo now!
