Thank you to Sophie Lark for the ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
Monarch is the second book in the romantic thriller series Grimstone by Sophie Lark. This book follows Elena who comes from Ukraine to Grimstone to marry Lorne who she met in her hometown. But as she lives at the Monarch hotel and gets to know it's owner, Atlas, a little more, she starts to see that not everything is as it seems with Lorne or the castle he is building.
You don't realize but I am OBSESSED with this book! From the characters to the atmosphere, this book had me sucked in every time I was able to sit down and read this. As I work full time, I only really got to sit and read this book on the weekend but when I did, I flew through it.
First off, I loved Atlas a a male main character. He was so serious but could be so funny when he wanted to be. I thought his and Elena's relationship was so well done as well. I really loved Elena as a main character. She really cared for Lorne's daughter, Ivy, so much and was so interesting to read from. Because she's come as a "mail order bride" she has to worry about more things than just her fiancé being a creep. I really loved seeing her and Atlas's relationship grow.
I thought the atmosphere in this book was amazing. It gave me the spooky vibes and the creepy vibes perfectly. This town is obsessed with Halloween and the vibes of the fall/autumn season. I thought that the town really fit that vibe and Sophie's writing perfectly encapsulated that.
I also loved the underlying plot in this book. While a lot o fhtis was about Altas and Elena, this was also about the mystery underneath such as the castle that Lorne was building and the vibes he gave off. I kind of called what the castle was for but I really loved seeing how Sophie made the vibes so strong.
I would highly recommend picking up this book if you're looking for a book with spooky vibes with a great love story. I loved this book so much and I cannot wait for other books in the series to come out. This was a perfect October read.
