The Murder of Mr. Wickham by Claudia Gray
3.0
I don't recommend this book to Jane Austen super fans, but if you read all of her books 10 years ago and liked them, this would be a good book for you
I didn't enjoy any character except maybe Juliet Tilney. I almost wish the characters were caricatures of the original Austen characters. I did love how Fanny Price did not like Elizabeth Bennett. Juliet and Johnathan had good motivation to solve the mystery, but it felt like they were not doing anything to actually solve the mystery until the end. They were necessary to proving innocence, but their efforts felt almost pointless until someone's innocence needed to be proved.
I think this would've been better as a mystery that took place over a day or two at most.
The killer was a surprise, but if there was much foreshadowing, it wasn't that noticeable. It really felt like the author pulled a name out of a hat and made them the killer.
The reason for the murder and how the night of the murder went down was really interesting. But there were too many point of view changes and a lot of telling without much showing.
There was also a lot of repetition. Every time we were in the older Mr. Darcy or Elizabeth's POV we were reminded that things haven't been the same for the last eight months or when the younger Mr. Darcy was confused by or messed up a social situation, we were told that he isn't good at social cues.
