I think the author misunderstood what we loved so much about a Dowry of blood. Not that this needed to be that, but when the stories overlap and you write in the same style- it’s going to send that message. There was no real hook, and I’m not even sure what the plot was. Beautiful prose but everything else felt like it just meandered for 350 pages
