Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang
3.0
Probably one of the very few books (or in this case, short stories) I've read where I enjoyed the movie more than the book.
Story of Your Life follows a linguist named Louise Banks who is tasked with an incredible job - to try to communicate with a set of aliens who have arrived to Earth to learn why they are here and what they want. While learning the aliens, or the heptapods, language, Dr. Banks is simultaneously telling the story of her daughters life. By becoming fluent within their language, Banks no longer sees time as linear, but as a whole. By learning their language, she can see into her future, a future in which she knows exactly what will happen to her, and her future daughter.
Would I Reread? No, but I'll re-watch the movie for the rest of my life
