The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

5.0

Can I just start off by saying - Read the book.
Beginner or Avid Reader, if you haven't read this gem, now is the time.

The Kite Runner is about friendship of two Afghan boys, one rich Pashtun and other servant Hazara, living in the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul. The story is set around the fall of Afghanistan's monarch and how the lives of these two friends is affected with the rise of Taliban. This story is about the relationship of a father and a son, of friendship, of betrayal, of atonement, of guilt.

I usually don't cry that easy, especially when I'm reading books but this book made me cry like a baby. (My copy of this book has legit tear marks on it). This was my first of Khaled Hosseini's works and I'm an admirer of his writing already. It makes you feel every emotion in such pure manner that it's hard for me to put it into words.
When I ended reading the book, a thought came to my mind that we all somewhere or the other want a friend like Hassan. But do we actually deserve one? Or are we willing to be that Hassan for someone? I don't think I could. I wanted to hate Amir for what he did but I couldn't. Every time Hassan said "for you, A thousand times over Amir Agha", my heart broke.
It has been quite a while since I read this book but I don't think the world of this book would ever leave my heart.
