This was a challenging read at times. I don’t think that is a good or bad thing, just a general truth. I found most of the characters unlikable for most of the book (except you Alex get behind me), but I guess that’s the point of the book. If we reduce people to their worst moments we probably wouldn’t like anyone very much. It is definitely a thought provoking ending, and one that encourages grace towards each other and importantly ourselves. I don’t think I could give it 4+ stars because the middle of the book strayed at times in ways I found unnecessary. The chapter with Jamie and Max at the luxurious spa/hotel felt like it could’ve been avoided altogether. I hope the Alex’s of the world hold onto their hope even in the wake of such horrible things.
Graphic: Hate crime, Physical abuse, Transphobia, Violence
Moderate: Outing, Dysphoria
Minor: Death, Eating disorder, Infertility, Fire/Fire injury
