super weird book.  I can't say I loved it, but once I settled in a bit (seriously, the first couple chapters were pretty off-putting), I was hooked.  overall, I had a good time.  a book for those who like supremely unlikeable characters who lie a lot.  I refuse to believe Jen Beagin was sober when coming up with the plot of the book (and that's okay!).

there was kind of a lot going on (because the characters were super messy people with multiple quirky layers to them), and it wasn't the most focused of books.  what was the point of the whole thing?  no clue.

I guess this is somewhat comparable to My Year of Rest and Relaxation (a book I despised), but done in a more interesting (and less gross for the sake of being gross) way.  lots of mental illness and childhood trauma.
