The story is all right, and I like the worldbuilding. I wish there was more of an introduction to the world outside the Ninth House, but I get that it's a closed third person perspective. I rated this a three because the pacing was not great for more than half the book, and because the writing isn't really my taste. I think there's an overuse of repetition in a way that grates. The writing style doesn't always seem to know what tone it wants to take. It read to me like it was trying too hard to be snappy and clever, and that got in the way of me being absorbed in the story.
