Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix
4.0
medium-paced
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes

Not as “monster scary” as some of Grady’s other works, more “women have no rights” real-life scary. 😳 getting kidnapped from your home as a terrified pregnant teenager to secretly be pregnant for 9 months and then hardcore gaslit/manipulated into giving your baby up for adoption?? 🤯❌ZERO information about birth and also ZERO consent during labor broke my heart. Terrifying and also so heartbreaking. My one gripe with this book is that I wish there was more revenge. I wanted Pastor Jerry to have his guts ripped out via witchcraft and then put back inside and then ripped out again. 🤗That man was actual evil. 🫡 I wanted Guy to feel even a fraction of the fear that Fern felt. The few witchy bits we did get, I ate up. 😛 I loooooved Hagar and Miriam (name twins!! 🥰) and their midwifery skills, and how they absolutely bodied a shoulder dystocia!!!!!!!!!!! I did cry when Roe was mentioned (this book was set pre-Roe), and how life was so different after Roe was passed and the Homes disintegrated. Scary times.
