Hoot

This Newberry Award-winning book was recommended to me by my grandson Nathan. I loved the book and see why he does, too. Roy, our middle school hero is new to his school. He sees a young boy running with no shoes. With a new pair of sneakers that don't fit Roy he searches for the boy to give him the shoes. So begins an adventure that leads to standing up to the school bully, rallying classmates to save the owls at a construction site and making new friends. The way Roy "solves" all his "problems" along the way are both legal and thoughtful, as is the advice and support given by his parents. The dialog is believable and the story is both exciting and funny for children and adults. Highly recommended.
