A Magical New York Christmas: A Novel
by Anita Hughes
Wow. While I was reading this book, my partner said to me, "why do you look so angry?" Which I think sums up my relationship with it quite well.
I picked it up on a whim because I wanted a light, Christmas themed read, with the bonus that it was set in NYC. I was sorely disappointed. This book was pretty bad. I hated the entire concept of the miscommunication which only got solved in the last 20 pages. They instantly forgive each other, of course, and live happily ever after. Uh, what?
I thought this book was overly ambitious and had way too much going on. Pick a plot line! Not five that are poorly managed and connected! I liked the descriptions, but at times there were too many and it dragged on. I hated all the assumptions the characters made about each other. I disliked how whiny and pretentious they all were, yet somehow poor and disadvantaged at the same time. Overall, a potentially decent concept with poor execution.
