Cyrano de Bergerac
by Edmond Rostand
Edmond Rostand did what I thought was impossible, and knocked Arthur Miller out of the top spot as my favorite playwright. The tragically romantic tale of Cyrano de Bergerac surprisingly won me over even though I'm not much of a romance fan. Call me weird but I have a love for stories where it doesn't end well for the protagonist, and to be honest I think that's why I loved this play. Interestingly, when I bought the play it came with the 1950's movie adaptation staring Jose Ferrer. I did the right thing of course and read the play first, but if you are looking for a really good adaptation of the play I highly recommend this as well.
