A Novella in the ACOTR series. It definitely propels the story along and provides important glimpses of where the characters are months after the Hybern war. Some are thriving, others sinking, some rebuilding and planning for the future, others stuck in the past horrors unable to move at all.

There was a bit of lightness to this novella as the characters prepare for Solstice. It was fun reading about the traditions and friendship between Rhys, Acadian and Azriel.

I enjoyed seeing a less guarded version of the characters. There was quite a bit of humor in this novella as well.

This novella focuses on a very specific time and event, but still acts as a bridge to the next full novel.

I am not sure why Maas didn’t just write a full novel.
I am late to the game, but I wonder if she needed to pacify the readers with something, but didn’t have a full book in her yet.

Some authors pour forth with stories of their world- knowing where the story lead and will end as soon as they start it. Others flow with the story and allow it to take them on the journey and record it as it is revealed to them.

Both end up creating something spectacular, but perhaps the one following the journey takes a bit longer to complete a novel. Who knows.

I enjoyed this peek in on our beloved characters and the things that are in motion for them leading into the next book.
