Boy 7 by Mirjam Mous

4.0

Boy 7 is a Dutch-language stand-alone book, which while being immensely popular in the Netherlands (there's also a Dutch language film), doesn't seem to have been translated to English.

1-10 rating: 7

Genre: Sci-Fi/Thriller

Place it should be on your to-read list: Well, if you don't speak Dutch, you won't be able to read it anyway. If you do, I'd advise picking it up if you see it in a library but not going out of your way to get it.

The premiss: A boy wakes up on a desolate grass field with absolutely no memory of anything, including his own name. This only clues to his past are the strange collection of objects in his backpack, and with them, he embarks on a mission to find out who he is. (Although it is a bit of a spoiler, it's also worth noting that this is an evil-corporation-that's-trying-to-take-over-the-world kind of book)

Good points: Realistic, at least in terms how the characters act and what they do. As soon as you get to Part Two, the story picks up and gets engaging to the point of not wanting to put the book down.

Bad Points: The plot is nothing original; I've seen every similar things several times before. Also, before part two, I was a little bored and didn't find it very interesting.
