I didn’t even get to 100 pages before I decided I was going to DNF (at pg. 88) because I hated the writing style of the book.
I hate how the mmc talks, props to the author being able to write a character like that but I despised how uneducated and dumb sounding the mmc was. All of his sentences were missing the words, “I”, “The” etc and it was driving me nuts. I couldn’t get past how many frickin adjectives were used to describe literally everything. The sky, his hair, her body, blah blah blah.
I literally cringed every time the fmc called her father “daddy”. It almost seemed like the location should have taken place in the Deep South from how it was written and not in Northern California. It was weird.
I’m rating 2.5 stars because the book itself was insanely well written and I have a feeling the plot and character development was great too I just couldn’t get past the poetry style writing. No actual paragraphs, tons of single word paragraphs for emphasis on the words which was boring the hell out of me. I’m hoping to try this again in the future but it was a no from me for now unfortunately.
